Job Duties – What Will You Actually Do?

Both Anthropologist posts carry similar core responsibilities:

  1. Lead field research parties and conduct anthropological investigations in your respective division (Cultural or Physical).
  2. Prepare detailed research reports based on field findings.
  3. Develop research plans and programmes for your division.
  4. Supervise other scientific team members in data collection, analysis, and report writing.
  5. Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Head of the Department.

This is a hands-on, field-intensive research role — not a desk job. If you enjoy fieldwork and academic research within a government framework, AnSI offers a genuinely unique environment.

Selection Process

UPSC follows a transparent and merit-based selection process for these posts:

  1. Shortlisting from Online Applications — UPSC may shortlist candidates based on higher qualifications, more relevant experience, or through a Recruitment Test (RT) if the number of applications is very large.
  2. Recruitment Test (RT) — May be held if needed. Candidates must clear the minimum suitability score in their category (UR: 50/100, OBC: 45/100, SC/ST/PwBD: 40/100).
  3. Personal Interview — Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview at UPSC’s office. The interview date will be communicated separately via email and the UPSC website.
  4. Final Merit — Selection is based on overall performance in the RT (if held) and interview combined.

⚠️ Important: Merely meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee a call for interview. Mention all your higher qualifications and additional experience in your application — UPSC uses these for shortlisting.
