Both your qualification and your age are judged on 19 October 2026. Make sure your degree and certificates are in hand by that date.

Educational Qualification

You need a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree from a recognised university or institution in one of these areas:

  • Food technology and related fields: food engineering, food processing and preservation, food processing technology, food biotechnology, food safety and quality management, and similar food-technology disciplines.

  • Medical degrees: MBBS, BDS, or a Bachelor’s degree in Homeopathic, Unani, Siddha, Ayurvedic or Sowa Rigpa medicine and surgery. Any other equivalent qualification notified by the Food Authority with the Central Government’s prior approval also counts.

You also need Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject in Matric (Class 10), or Hindi as a subject in higher education.

✅ Good to know: The training set by the Food Authority is given after appointment, so you do not need to complete it before applying. Only candidates who finish it successfully are notified as Food Safety Officers.

HPSC FSO Selection Process

HPSC generally follows three stages, though the Commission decides the exact pattern.

  1. Screening Test: Held only if needed, and may be conducted on OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) sheets.
  2. Subject Knowledge Test: Tests your knowledge of the relevant subjects. The exam pattern and syllabus are [To be announced].
  3. Interview: Your documents are checked in detail only after you qualify for this stage.

If a large number of applications arrive, HPSC may shortlist candidates before the next stage. It can use marks in your qualifying degree, weightage for different qualifications, desirable or higher qualifications, relevant experience, or a Screening Test and Subject Knowledge Test. The Commission may also skip the Screening Test and go straight to the Subject Knowledge Test and Interview.

⚠️ HPSC does not accept requests for re-checking of OMR sheets or re-evaluation of answer sheets. Its decision on the exam pattern is final.
