Visva-Bharati Faculty Vacancy 2026 – Post-Wise Details

The 14 posts are spread across different Bhavanas (faculties) of the university. Several are in music, painting and performing arts, which is typical for Visva-Bharati.

Eligibility Criteria

The university follows the UGC Regulations 2018. Your qualification and experience must be complete on the last date of application, which is 31 October 2026.

Professor (Sl. No. 1, Sculpture)

You can qualify through either of two routes.

Route A – Academic scholar – A doctoral degree and recognition as an eminent scholar. – At least 10 years of teaching and/or research at a university or national-level institution. – A minimum of 6 research publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals. – A total research score of at least 120 as per Appendix II, Table 2 of the notification.

Route B – Traditional or professional artist – A Master’s degree in the subject. – ‘A’ grade artist status with All India Radio (AIR) or Doordarshan. – Ten years of outstanding performing achievement in the specialisation. – Contribution to the field, ability to guide research and participation in national or international seminars, workshops or concerts.

Specialisation in Sculpture is a desirable qualification.

Associate Professor (Sl. No. 2 to 7)

For Geography, English (two posts) and Botany (Sl. No. 2 to 5): – A Ph.D. in the concerned, allied or relevant discipline. – A Master’s degree with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade. – At least 8 years of teaching or research experience at Assistant Professor level or equivalent. – A minimum of 7 publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and a research score of at least 75.

For Botany, an M.Sc. with specialisation in any branch of Botany is desirable.

For Esraj and Painting (Sl. No. 6 and 7): Two routes are open again. Route A needs a doctoral degree, a high standard of performing ability, 8 years of experience and a significant contribution to knowledge. Route B is for artists with a Master’s degree, ‘A’ grade status with AIR or Doordarshan, 8 years of performing achievement and experience in designing courses or curricula.

For the Painting post, an active professional art practice, including solo exhibitions and curated national or international group shows, is desirable.

Assistant Professor (Sl. No. 8 to 14)

For Physics, Agricultural Extension and Odia (Sl. No. 8 to 10): – A Master’s degree with at least 55% marks in a relevant subject from an Indian university, or an equivalent foreign degree. – A pass in UGC or CSIR NET, or a similar UGC-accredited test such as SLET or SET. Candidates who hold or have been awarded a Ph.D. under the UGC 2009 or 2016 regulations are exempt from NET. – Alternatively, a Ph.D. from a foreign university ranked in the top 500 by QS, Times Higher Education or ARWU.

For Rabindra Sangit, Textile, Graphic Art and Kheyal (Sl. No. 11 to 14): – The same Master’s plus NET, SLET, SET or Ph.D. route, or – The artist route: a Bachelor’s degree, training under a noted master, and ‘A’ grade status with AIR or Doordarshan.

Desirable qualifications differ by post: – Physics: M.Sc. in Physics with Electronics specialisation, or M.Sc. in Electronics. – Agricultural Extension: B.Sc. (Ag.) Hons., M.Sc. (Ag.) and Ph.D. in Agricultural Extension or Extension Education. – Odia: Specialisation in Modern Odia Literature and research publications. – Textile: Knowledge of fibres, fabric structures, handloom weaving including Jacquard, and Textile CAD. – Graphic Art: Specialisation in Printmaking or Graphic Art.

Age Limit

Artists with AIR or Doordarshan Grading: Read This

Most of the music and fine-arts posts have a route for practising artists. If you hold an ‘A’ grade from AIR or Doordarshan, you may not need a Ph.D. or NET at all.

The required experience rises with the post. It is a Bachelor’s degree at Assistant Professor level, a Master’s degree with 8 years at Associate Professor level, and a Master’s degree with 10 years at Professor level. All three posts are paid under the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) Pay Matrix. The table shows entry basic pay, plus an estimated gross with Dearness Allowance (DA).

Selection Process

1. Shortlisting: If applications are very high, the university may call only a limited number of candidates, in a ratio of up to 1:15, for each post. Shortlisting is based on your academic and research score under UGC Regulation 2018 (Appendix II, Tables 2 and 3A).
2. Interview: This is the deciding stage. Final selection rests only on interview performance.
3. Document verification: Your certificates, antecedents and past service are checked.
4. Police verification: Selected candidates go through this before or after joining.
