Eligibility Criteria for CPCL Executive Recruitment 2026
Educational Qualification and Experience
Most posts need a first-class engineering degree with at least 60% marks, plus two years of work experience after the degree. SC/ST/PwBD candidates applying against reserved posts get a lower cut-off of 55%, and the notification applies it discipline by discipline.
| Post Code | Qualification | Minimum Experience |
|---|---|---|
| CPCL 01 – Engineer (Chemical) | First-class engineering/technology degree in Chemical, Petroleum or Petrochemicals, 60% aggregate | 2 years in process units, preferably in refining, chemicals, petrochemicals or fertiliser |
| CPCL 02 – Engineer (Mechanical) | First-class Mechanical engineering degree, 60% | 2 years in a process industry, working with static and rotary equipment |
| CPCL 03 – Engineer (Electrical) | First-class Electrical or Electrical & Electronics degree, 60% | 2 years in electrical equipment maintenance in a process industry |
| CPCL 04 – Engineer (Civil) | First-class Civil engineering degree, 60% | 2 years in refining, chemical, petrochemical, fertiliser or hydrocarbon processing |
| CPCL 05 – Engineer (Instrumentation) | First-class Instrumentation (including Electronics & Instrumentation) degree, 60% | 2 years in the same kind of process industries |
| CPCL 06 – Officer (Information Systems) | First-class engineering degree in Computer Science, IT or Electronics & Communication, 60% | 2 years in a process industry, with instrumentation, analysers and control systems (DCS/PLC) |
| CPCL 07 – Junior Officer (Official Language) | Master’s in Hindi (with English at graduation) or Master’s in English (with Hindi at graduation), 60% | 2 years of Hindi/technical translation or terminology work, preferably in government or PSU offices |
| CPCL 08 – Manager / Senior Manager (Secretarial) | Associate Membership of ICSI (ACS) with at least 50% in the final exam | 12 years (Manager, Grade C) or 15 years (Senior Manager, Grade D) in a company secretarial role |
💡 Pro Tip: For CPCL 07, a diploma in translation or a three-month Central Translation Bureau course is listed as desirable. For CPCL 08, an LLB or law degree is a plus. Neither is mandatory.
Age Limit (as on 1 October 2026)
The base upper age limit is 28 years for Post Codes 01 to 07. For Post Code 08, it is 42 years for Manager (Grade C) and 45 years for Senior Manager (Grade D).
| Category | Relaxation | Upper Age (Post Codes 01–07) |
|---|---|---|
| General / EWS | None | 28 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years | 31 years |
| SC / ST | 5 years | 33 years |
| PwBD | 10 to 15 years, depending on category | [Check official notification] |
| Ex-Servicemen | 5 years | 33 years |
⚠️ Age and qualification are both counted on 1 October 2026. Check your experience dates against the official notification before paying the fee.
CPCL Executive Salary 2026 – Pay Scale and CTC
CPCL pays on the IDA (Industrial Dearness Allowance) pay scale. That is the PSU pay structure, not the central government pay matrix.
| Post Code | Grade | Pay Scale | Starting Basic | Approx. CTC per Year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 01 to 06 | Grade A (Supervisory) | ₹50,000 – ₹1,60,000 | ₹50,000 | About ₹20 lakh |
| 07 | Grade E0 (Supervisory) | ₹30,000 – ₹1,20,000 | ₹30,000 | About ₹11.1 lakh |
| 08 – Manager | Grade C | ₹80,000 – ₹2,20,000 | ₹80,000 | About ₹30 lakh |
| 08 – Senior Manager | Grade D | ₹90,000 – ₹2,40,000 | ₹90,000 | About ₹35 lakh |
What does the CTC actually mean?
A ₹20 lakh CTC works out to about ₹1.67 lakh per month on paper. That figure is gross cost to company, not your take-home. It includes allowances, performance-related pay (PRP), provident fund and other benefits, so your monthly in-hand pay will be lower.
Besides basic pay, you get IDA, HRA, a cafeteria allowance, conveyance maintenance, PRP, contributory provident fund, gratuity, LFA/LTC, medical reimbursement and superannuation benefits. The actual amount depends on your posting and CPCL’s annual performance. No pay protection is allowed, so previous salary does not carry over.
Service Bond – Read This Before You Apply
Candidates selected for Post Codes 01 to 07 must sign a service bond for a minimum of 3 years from the date of joining.
| Category | Bond Amount |
|---|---|
| General | ₹3 lakh |
| EWS / OBC-NCL / SC / ST / PwBD | ₹50,000 |
For a General candidate on the Grade A scale, the bond is about 15% of one year’s approximate CTC. It is not a barrier, but plan for it if you are likely to switch to another PSU or a private firm within three years.
Selection Process
The process differs by post code.
Post Codes 01 to 07
- Computer Based Test (CBT): 120 objective questions for 120 marks in 2 hours. 50 questions test general aptitude and 70 test your discipline. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. The CBT is tentatively planned in Chennai only.
- Group Discussion / Group Task: for shortlisted candidates.
- Personal Interview: for shortlisted candidates.
- Final merit: 85% CBT, 5% Group Discussion/Group Task and 10% interview. For CPCL 07, the 5% component is a Skill Test instead.
You need at least 40% in both the CBT and the interview to qualify. For SC/ST/PwBD candidates against reserved posts, the cut-off is 35% in each stage.
Post Code 08
There is no written test. Shortlisting is based on your qualification, experience and overall suitability. Final merit is 20% Group Discussion/Group Task and 80% Personal Interview, and you need at least 40% in the interview.
How the Weightage Works: A Worked Example
The CBT is worth 85% of your final score, so it decides almost everything. Here is a simple illustration with made-up marks.
| Stage | Marks Scored | Weightage | Contribution |
|---|---|---|---|
| CBT | 80 out of 120 | 85% | About 56.7 out of 85 |
| Group Discussion/Task | 70% | 5% | 3.5 out of 5 |
| Interview | 70% | 10% | 7 out of 10 |
| Final Score | About 67.2 out of 100 |
The minimum CBT mark to stay in the race is 48 out of 120 for General candidates and 42 for reserved categories. The interview can add at most 10 points, so a strong CBT is far more valuable than a polished interview.
💡 Pro Tip: With 70 of the 120 questions from your own discipline, your core subjects (reaction engineering and process control for Chemical, thermodynamics and machine design for Mechanical, and so on) matter most. Revise them first, then work on aptitude.

Which Post Should You Choose? A Quick Guide
Since you can pick only one post, choose carefully.
- Chemical engineers (CPCL 01): 22 vacancies and the widest pool of seats across categories. This is the most open door in this drive.
- Mechanical and Electrical (CPCL 02, 03): 7 and 5 vacancies. Your plant experience in maintenance matters here, so be ready to show it.
- Civil, Instrumentation, IT (CPCL 04, 05, 06): 1 to 2 seats each. Competition per seat will be high, so prepare as if for a rank-based exam.
- Hindi/English postgraduates (CPCL 07): a single seat with a Skill Test in place of the 5% group stage.
- Company Secretaries (CPCL 08): one senior role with no written test. Your profile and interview carry the whole selection.
✅ Already working in a refinery, petrochemical or fertiliser plant? That experience is exactly what CPCL is looking for, and you have a clear advantage over general engineering applicants.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Applying with less than 60% aggregate (55% for eligible reserved categories). Marks are checked across all semesters or years.
- Claiming experience that does not match the post. Process-industry experience is the core requirement for most posts.
- Uploading a photo or signature outside the size limit.
- Applying for more than one post and losing the fee.
- Ignoring the service bond until after selection.

Engineers and Officers in Grade A start at ₹50,000 basic pay in a ₹50,000–₹1,60,000 scale, with an approximate CTC of ₹20 lakh a year. Manager (Grade C) and Senior Manager (Grade D) posts start at ₹80,000 and ₹90,000, with approximate CTCs of ₹30 lakh and ₹35 lakh. These CTC figures are gross, so your in-hand pay will be lower.
What is the selection process for CPCL Executive Recruitment 2026?
For Post Codes 01 to 07, you appear for a 120-mark CBT, then a Group Discussion or Group Task and a Personal Interview. The weightage is 85%, 5% and 10%. For Post Code 08, selection is by Group Discussion/Group Task (20%) and Personal Interview (80%).

Yes. Each wrong answer carries a penalty of 0.25 marks in the 120-question, 2-hour CBT. Check the official notification for the full exam instructions.

Yes, for Post Codes 01 to 07. The bond runs for a minimum of 3 years from joining. The amount is ₹3 lakh for General candidates and ₹50,000 for EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwBD candidates.
Conclusion
CPCL Executive Recruitment 2026 is a rare chance to join a refinery that belongs to the IndianOil family, with a Grade A start of ₹50,000 basic and a CTC of around ₹20 lakh. The catch is the experience requirement and the 3-year bond, so check both honestly before you apply. If you fit, don’t wait for the last week. Register early, pick the right post code and submit before 3 December 2026.
