Eligibility Criteria for NCL Apprentice Recruitment 2026

Educational Qualification

Your qualification must be a full-time regular course — part-time, correspondence, or distance learning degrees and diplomas are not accepted. The key requirements are:

  • Graduate Apprentices: Full-time degree in the relevant engineering or non-engineering discipline from a UGC/AICTE-recognized university.
  • Diploma Apprentices: Full-time diploma from a BTE/AICTE-recognized polytechnic in the relevant discipline.
  • ITI Trade Apprentices: Matriculation (Class 10) plus ITI certificate in the applicable trade with a valid National Trade Certificate (NCVT) or State Trade Certificate (SCVT).
  • Paramedical Apprentices: Full-time degree or diploma in the respective paramedical discipline plus a valid state registration certificate.

Critical condition: Your qualification must have been obtained from an institute that is functional and operational in either Uttar Pradesh or Madhya Pradesh. Institutes located in other states are not eligible, even if they are otherwise recognized.

Another key condition: Your passing date must be after June 2022. Qualifications obtained before June 2022 make you ineligible.

Age Limit (as on 01 June 2026)

Candidates must be between 18 and 26 years of age. In other words, you must have been born between 01 June 2000 and 01 June 2008.

CategoryAge Relaxation
General / EWSNo relaxation (18–26 years)
OBC – Non Creamy Layer3 years (up to 29 years)
SC / ST5 years (up to 31 years)
PwBD (General/UR)10 years (up to 36 years)
PwBD (OBC-NCL)13 years (up to 39 years)
PwBD (SC/ST)15 years (up to 41 years)

Note on OBC: Only OBC Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) candidates can claim reservation benefits. Creamy Layer OBC candidates will be treated as General/UR.

Who Is NOT Eligible to Apply?

This is one of the most important sections — NCL has set strict exclusion criteria. You cannot apply if:

  • You have previously completed an apprenticeship or are currently undergoing one anywhere in India.
  • You have 1 year or more of paid work experience.
  • You passed your qualifying degree/diploma/ITI before June 2022.
  • Your qualifying institute is not based in UP or MP.
  • You hold a qualification higher than what is prescribed for your chosen discipline.
  • Your degree/diploma was completed through correspondence or distance mode.
  • You submit more than one application — multiple applications lead to automatic disqualification.

⚠️ Read this list carefully before filling the form. Submitting an application when ineligible wastes your time and results in cancellation during document scrutiny.

NCL Apprentice Stipend 2026 – How Much Will You Earn?

The monthly stipend is fixed based on your qualification level:

CategoryMonthly Stipend
Graduate Apprentice (Engineering/Non-Engineering)₹12,300
Diploma Apprentice₹10,900
Trade Apprentice – ITI (NCVT/SCVT trades)₹10,560
Trade Apprentice – Welder₹9,600
Paramedical Graduate Apprentice₹13,700
Paramedical Diploma Apprentice₹12,700

The stipend is paid directly to your Aadhaar-linked bank account. For Graduate and Diploma apprentices, the amount includes the Government of India share, which is transferred via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). There are no additional allowances — no HRA, no TA/DA, and no accommodation. Factor this into your decision, especially if you would be relocating to Singrauli, MP.

💡 Also note: Apprenticeship training does not guarantee permanent employment in NCL. It is a statutory training program under the Apprentice Act, 1961, and the engagement ends after one year.

Application Fee for NCL Apprentice 2026

CategoryFee
All CategoriesNIL

There is no application fee for any category. The entire process is free of cost through the NATS and NAPS government portals.

Selection Process – How Will You Be Selected?

There is no written examination. Selection is entirely based on three stages:

Stage 1 – Merit List

For Graduate and Diploma positions, NCL prepares a merit list based on the percentage of marks in the qualifying examination. For ITI Trade positions, the merit is based on the average of the Matriculation pass percentage and the NCVT/SCVT Trade Certificate percentage.

In case of a tie in marks, NCL applies two tiebreakers in order — first, the older candidate is ranked higher; second, if the date of birth is also the same, alphabetical order of names is applied.

Important: NCL does not round off percentages. If your marks work out to 49.99%, that is treated as less than 50% — it will not be rounded to 50%.

Stage 2 – Document Scrutiny

Shortlisted candidates are called to NCL’s Singrauli facility to produce all original certificates. If you fail to appear or cannot produce a valid document, your candidature is cancelled immediately. The date and venue are communicated by email and on the official website.

Stage 3 – Medical Examination

Every selected candidate must pass a medical fitness test as per the standards under the Mines Rules, 1955. The fitness certificate must be issued by a Government Hospital Medical Officer of the rank of Assistant Civil Surgeon or above, in the prescribed Annexure-3 format, and must be dated after the notification release date of 25 May 2026.

How to Apply for NCL Apprentice Recruitment 2026 – Step by Step

Applying involves two portals — the right one depends on your qualification:

For Graduate and Diploma Apprentices → NATS Portal

  1. Visit nats.education.gov.in and register as a student/candidate.
  2. Complete the registration and note your Enrolment ID.
  3. Search for NCL (Northern Coalfields Limited) vacancies on the portal.
  4. Select your discipline and fill in the application form.
  5. Upload your scanned colour photograph and signature (in black ink) as per portal specifications.
  6. Enter your academic details — total marks and maximum marks precisely (no rounding).
  7. Submit the form and download a printout for your records.

For Trade / ITI Apprentices → NAPS Portal

  1. Visit apprenticeshipindia.gov.in and register.
  2. Get your Enrolment ID.
  3. Apply for NCL Trade Apprentice positions in your relevant trade.
  4. Follow the same steps as above for document upload and submission.

💡 Keep these ready before you start: Aadhaar number, Aadhaar-linked bank account details, scanned photograph, scanned black ink signature, date of birth certificate, mark sheets with exact marks and maximum marks, category certificate (Annexure-1 format) if applicable, and PwBD certificate (Annexure-2 format) if applicable.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Many candidates lose their candidature due to avoidable errors. Watch out for these:

  • Not checking the institute location rule — your college/polytechnic/ITI must be functional and operational in UP or MP. Check this before applying.
  • Applying for more than one discipline — only one application is allowed. Multiple submissions mean automatic disqualification.
  • Rounding off your percentage — enter the exact figures from your marksheet.
  • Uploading an unclear photograph or signature — blurry uploads are rejected during scrutiny.
  • Not saving an Enrolment ID before the NCL application closes — without the NATS/NAPS registration number, you cannot complete the form.
  • Using a temporary email ID or mobile number — all communication, including document scrutiny dates, is via email and SMS.
