What Are the Qualifying Marks for CTET 2026?
Passing the CTET exam requires meeting these minimum thresholds:
| Category | Minimum Qualifying Marks | Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| General | 90 out of 150 | 60% |
| SC / ST / OBC / PwD | 82 out of 150 | ~55% |
One of the most important things to know: clearing CTET does not guarantee a teaching appointment. It makes you eligible to apply for teaching jobs in central government schools such as Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), and CBSE-affiliated schools. The actual hiring is done separately by these organisations.

How Long Is the CTET Certificate Valid?
The Ministry of Education revised the rules in June 2021. A CTET qualifying certificate is now valid for a lifetime — for all categories. This applies retrospectively from 2011. If your earlier 7-year certificate has expired, contact your respective State or UT authority for revalidation.
You can also re-appear in CTET to improve your score, even after qualifying. There is no cap on the number of attempts.

Q3. Can I choose my exam city for CTET?
No. CBSE allots exam cities on a random basis across 132 cities in India. There is no provision to select or request a specific city, and no change requests will be accepted after submission.
Q4. Is B.Ed mandatory to appear in CTET?
B.Ed is not required for Paper I (primary level, Classes I–V). Final-year students of eligible teacher training programmes can also apply.

There is no limit on the number of attempts. You can appear in CTET as many times as you wish. Even if you have already qualified, you can re-appear to improve your score.
Q6. Is the CTET certificate valid for a lifetime?
Yes. Since June 2021, the Ministry of Education extended CTET certificate validity to a lifetime for all categories. This revision is retrospective from 2011, meaning older certificates that expired during the 7-year window can potentially be revalidated through State/UT authorities.
Q7. Does CTET qualify me for Class IX and X teaching posts?
No. As of now, CTET covers eligibility for Classes I to VIII only. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has confirmed that CTET will not cover Classes IX to XII before 2027, when the first batch of the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) graduates.
