What Are the Qualifying Marks for CTET 2026?

Passing the CTET exam requires meeting these minimum thresholds:

CategoryMinimum Qualifying MarksPercentage
General90 out of 15060%
SC / ST / OBC / PwD82 out of 150~55%

One of the most important things to know: clearing CTET does not guarantee a teaching appointment. It makes you eligible to apply for teaching jobs in central government schools such as Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), and CBSE-affiliated schools. The actual hiring is done separately by these organisations.

How Long Is the CTET Certificate Valid?

The Ministry of Education revised the rules in June 2021. A CTET qualifying certificate is now valid for a lifetime — for all categories. This applies retrospectively from 2011. If your earlier 7-year certificate has expired, contact your respective State or UT authority for revalidation.

You can also re-appear in CTET to improve your score, even after qualifying. There is no cap on the number of attempts.

  8. Pay the application fee online through debit card, credit card, or net banking
  9. Review everything carefully, then submit the form
  10. Download and print the confirmation page — keep it safe

💡 Before you begin: Keep the following ready — scanned passport-size photograph (JPG/JPEG), scanned signature in running handwriting (not block letters), a government-issued photo ID, Class 10/12 certificates, your B.Ed/D.El.Ed certificate or enrolment proof, and your category certificate if applicable.

CTET September 2026 – What Jobs Does It Open?

Clearing CTET is the first and mandatory step toward teaching jobs in:

  • Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) — one of the largest government school networks in India
  • Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) — residential schools for talented rural students
  • Central Tibetan Schools Administration (CTSA)
  • Army Public Schools and other centrally-administered institutions
  • Many state government schools also accept CTET for their Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) requirements

While CTET is not compulsory for private school appointments, a large number of private CBSE-affiliated schools prefer or require CTET-qualified candidates — making it a valuable credential even in the private sector.

Frequently Asked Questions – CTET September 2026

Q1. When does the CTET September 2026 application form open?

The online application for CTET September 2026 opened on 11 May 2026. Candidates can apply at ctet.nic.in until 10 June 2026 (upto 11:59 PM). The fee payment deadline is also 10 June 2026.

Q2. What is the exam date for CTET September 2026?

The exam is scheduled for 06 September 2026 (Sunday). If the number of registered candidates is unusually high, CBSE may also use 05 September 2026 as an additional exam date.

Q3. Can I choose my exam city for CTET?

No. CBSE allots exam cities on a random basis across 132 cities in India. There is no provision to select or request a specific city, and no change requests will be accepted after submission.

Q4. Is B.Ed mandatory to appear in CTET?

B.Ed is not required for Paper I (primary level, Classes I–V). For Paper II (upper primary level, Classes VI–VIII), candidates generally need a graduation degree along with a B.Ed, B.El.Ed, or equivalent NCTE-recognised qualification. Final-year students of eligible teacher training programmes can also apply.

Q5. How many times can I attempt CTET?

There is no limit on the number of attempts. You can appear in CTET as many times as you wish. Even if you have already qualified, you can re-appear to improve your score.

Q6. Is the CTET certificate valid for a lifetime?

Yes. Since June 2021, the Ministry of Education extended CTET certificate validity to a lifetime for all categories. This revision is retrospective from 2011, meaning older certificates that expired during the 7-year window can potentially be revalidated through State/UT authorities.

Q7. Does CTET qualify me for Class IX and X teaching posts?

No. As of now, CTET covers eligibility for Classes I to VIII only. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has confirmed that CTET will not cover Classes IX to XII before 2027, when the first batch of the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) graduates.

Summing Up…
