Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Post 1 — Asst. Foreman (Electrical) (Trainee), T&S Gr-C (E&M)

Candidates need either a Diploma in Electrical Engineering (minimum 3-year course, AICTE-approved) or a Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (AICTE-approved). Engineering graduates and polytechnic diploma holders both qualify.

Post 2 — Technician (Electrician) (Trainee), Cat-III (E&M)

This post has a three-part qualification requirement. First, you need a Matriculation pass or equivalent from any recognised Board. Second, you need an ITI (2-year course) in Electrician Trade with a Trade Certificate issued by NCVT or SCVT, plus at least 1 year of training or on-the-job practical experience. Third — and this is critical — you need an LT Permit under IE Rules for Mines, or a 440–550 Volts mining parts permit issued by a Competent Authority.

Upon regularisation as Electrician Cat-IV after completing one year of training and acquiring the requisite permit, pay scales improve under the NCWA structure.

Selection Process

MCL’s selection for these posts is simple and transparent. There is no personal interview at any stage.

1. Computer Based Test (CBT): All eligible candidates who apply will be provisionally called for the CBT. The exam consists of 100 objective-type questions with no negative marking. Section A covers General Awareness and Aptitude (20 questions, 20 marks). Section B covers Technical Knowledge specific to the post applied for (80 questions, 80 marks). Instructions are in both English and Hindi.
2. Qualifying Marks in CBT: General and EWS candidates need 45 marks (45%). OBC-NCL candidates need 40 marks (40%). SC and ST candidates need 35 marks (35%).
3. Document Verification: Candidates who clear the CBT are shortlisted in a 1:3 ratio (3 candidates per vacancy) and called for document verification. At this stage, all original certificates must be produced. Those working in Government or semi-government organisations must bring a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer.
4. Final Merit & Appointment: A Provisional Select List is published after document verification. Final appointment offers are issued based on merit order and government reservation policy. The merit panel remains valid for one year.
