Qualifying Marks – A Quick Calculation
You need 33% in each paper separately. There is no sectional cut-off in the Common Paper. Based on the marking scheme, here is what that means in practice (our own calculation).
| Paper | Qualifying Marks | Minimum Correct Answers |
|---|---|---|
| Common Paper (100 marks) | 33 | 14 questions (14 × 2.5 = 35) |
| Technical Paper (100 marks) | 33 | 17 questions (17 × 2 = 34) |
💡 Pro Tip: Since there is no negative marking, attempt every question. A blind guess costs you nothing.
Physical Tests, Driving Test and ANM Competency Test
Candidates are shortlisted in a ratio of 1:8 for PST/PET, and 1:3 for the driving test and the ANM competency test. You must also have scored at least 33% in each written paper.

The notification gives these standards for post codes 31/26, 34/26 and 35/26.

| High jump (3 attempts) | 107 cm | 107 cm |
| Long jump (3 attempts) | 11 feet | 11 feet |
Ex-Servicemen do not have to take the PET, but they must clear the PST. Vision standards are 6/6 in the better eye and 6/12 in the worse eye (corrected), with no colour blindness.
ANM Competency Test
ANM candidates face four stations of 10 marks each: Vital Signs, Maternal and Child Health, Infection Control Protocol, and Basic Procedure in Midwifery. You attempt any three and need 21 out of 30 to qualify, with at least 7 marks per station attempted.

Smart Preparation Tips for the Written Exam
You have a little over a month between the application deadline and the exam, so use the time well.
- Split your time 50:50. Both papers carry 100 marks. Many candidates over-prepare the technical paper and ignore the Common Paper.
- Practise the Common Paper basics. Ten questions each on general knowledge, reasoning, arithmetic and English can lift your total score quickly.
- Revise your own subject deeply. Nursing, pharmacy, lab and dental candidates should revise their diploma-level core subjects.
- Drivers: study road safety. The technical paper for post codes 31/26 to 35/26 is Road Safety and Traffic Signages, so learn road signs, traffic rules and licence basics.
- Check the official syllabus. APSSB notified it separately on 08 October 2026 under the Syllabus section of its website.
- Start physical training early. Constable and Head Constable Driver aspirants should practise the 100 m, 1500 m and jumps well before January 2027.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Mixing up the preference order, since it cannot be edited later
- Applying without a valid PRC or APST certificate
- Uploading photo or signature files outside the size limits
- Letting your driving licence expire before the verification date
- Leaving the form for the last two days
